In 2008, Joy Eakins founded what would later become known as Cornerstone Data. With a multi-disciplinary background in Mathematics, Computer Science, and Theological Studies, Joy was uniquely positioned to view data science in light of the people and organizations that produced it. The company was created to provide such a bridge.

Joy honed her programming, database, and analytical skills at Milliman, ICB Consulting, Bell Labs/Lucent Technologies and Avaya.

Outside the Office: A champion of education, Joy served on the Wichita School Board from 2013 to 2018. She was recently education chair of FlagshipKansas.Tech, an organization promoting Kansas’ technology Industry. Board member since 2016 of Wichita Regional Chamber of Commerce; currently its chair-elect. Board member, Youth Horizons, since 2020.

Recognitions: Wichita Chamber’s 2015 Small Business of the Year. Wichita Business Journal’s 2020 Women who Lead in Technology, and 2016 Women in Business.

Why Data? I enjoy solving problems by breaking them into pieces, seeking patterns, and creating meaningful solutions. You can’t solve all of life’s problems that way, but data and most other technical challenges have concrete solutions, and that’s what I love about them.

A favorite part of my job is delivering a data visualization to a client and seeing the leaders in the room immediately begin considering the implications for their organization. When I see that, I know we hit a home run.

Education & Experience:
Bachelor’s in General Physics, Kansas State University
Master’s in Curriculum and Instruction, Science Emphasis, University of Kansas.

An avid learner, Christopher brings a unique perspective to the leadership team. After a start in financial sales, he transitioned to teaching, building an extensive background in education.

Christopher intrinsically understands the adaptive work needed to help our clients make progress on their most difficult issues.

Before joining Cornerstone Data, he served in technology program leadership positions at WSU Tech.

Outside the Office: A native of Mulvane, Kansas, and father of five, Chris keeps busy with family, community and church activities. He’s a youth football and wrestling coach in his hometown and a supportive parent of his kids’ cheerleading and swimming. When he finds the time, Chris enjoys Frisbee golf, hiking, strategy board games and hanging out with friends.

He serves on a Citizens Advisory Board that provides input to Sedgwick County commissioners.

Recognitions: 2015 Good Apple Award, Wichita Public Schools. 2014 Outstanding Teacher Award, Wichita Society of Professional Engineers.

Why Data? As an educator, we made decisions based on insights gained in the classroom but rarely looked outward at data reflecting the whole community. I realized the need to close this gap if we were to provide programs and education meaningful to students and their future employers.

While on this path, I learned such skills as data mining, forecasting, and data cleansing and discovered I enjoy helping others gain insights from data coming from inside and outside their organizations. Once we gain that full picture, we’re more likely to achieve success.
